Right Bank

Bordeaux on a human scale

Flanking the right (northern) bank of the Dordogne River, this relatively large zone encompasses the appellations of Côtes de Castillon, Côtes de Francs, Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Fronsac, Canon-Fronsac, Bourg, and Blaye. Instead of Cabernet Sauvignon which dominates the appellations of the Médoc on the left bank, Merlot—and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Franc—tend to comprise the majority in blends from the above appellations. Also, in contrast to the left bank’s grand chateaux and their immense wealth, the right bank is rife with small growers working on a humbler scale. We at Rosenthal have been fortunate to find producers in these appellations who show immense vision, courage, and talent, elevating their wines well above the ordinary.
