Beaune Rouge 1er Cru, “Les Avaux”

Just south of the road leading up to Bouze-lès-Beaune is the Beaune premier cru of Les Avaux. The relatively thin layer of topsoil in this parcel is a cracked chalky clay with many cailloux dotting the surface. Farming is organic, élevage is in oak, with no more than one-third new barrles, and the wine produced is balanced and gently structured, singing of red fruits and spices.
